Daniel and Ami Barboza
The year was 1998. A short rapscallion named Daniel from Dartmouth, Massachusetts encountered two things that he had no idea would eventually take over his life. One was Warhammer 40,000 2nd edition, and the other was Ami. It was a match made in heaven, but you wouldn’t know that from watching them go head to head at the table. The gaming power couple was well known in the Warmachine/Hordes scene after Ami picked up the game in 2011, and their experiences with the local community led them to open up The Armoury Wargames and Hobbies in June of 2015 (on Ami’s birthday, no less!)
Since then, the pair have been bringing gaming to the masses in the Southcoast with no signs of stopping. Armour Con is just the next step in their ongoing dream of making tabletop gaming more accessible for everyone.
Corey Mello
Some say he’s seen the Space Marine movie 1,780 times, and that whenever he removes his helmet, a Karen somewhere has her day ruined. No matter what you believe, it is known that he walked into The Armoury one day on a whim and somehow ended up in Daniel and Ami’s Wedding Party not terribly long after.
Corey’s been playing pen and paper RPGs since middle school, but has been helping pay The Armoury’s rent with his crippling plastic addiction since 2015. Outside of gaming, he’s an IT Coordinator in Special Education. He’s the right hand man to Daniel and Ami for the convention, and can often be found coordinating events behind the scenes and making sure everyone has a badge.
The Armoury Wargames & Hobbies
Opened in 2015 in the scariest back-alley mill you could imagine, The Armoury made its mark on the South Coast of Massachusetts because the interior was way more cool than the exterior. Coming onto the scene while Warmachine-Hordes was burning hot, it specializes in miniature wargaming, collectible card games, and pen-and-paper roleplaying games. Daniel and Ami brought their perspective of the hobby – embracing all aspects, painting and rolling dice alike – to the store and built a strong community around its unique feel and friendly atmosphere.
The store outgrew its roots by 2018, and moved to a less terrifying spot in Fairhaven just off the highway. With the tailwind of a renewed Warhammer alongside the ever-popular Dungeons and Dragons, the store has flourished and now hosts a great variety of systems on a weekly basis, including Star Wars Legion, A Song of Ice and Fire, and more.
While the future is forever uncertain, The Armoury strives to grow, both in community and physical size, to further the mission of its owners: to expand the hobby and introduce more people to tabletop games each and every day.
